Why is luxury vinyl so popular?

If you're like today's shopper, you'll be looking, more than ever, for value. It would not be easy to find something that offers so much value for the decorating dollar with gorgeous visuals, waterproofing capability, and countless other functional benefits.

First, the style

Forget anything you may remember from the vinyl of past decades because this is fashionable enough for any room in the house. Instead, nature-inspired, true-to-life images of wood, stone, and tile are taken with digital photography, so they're clear, vibrant, and accurate.

Micro beveling and embossing add depth, dimension, and textured looks, such as wire-brushed, hand scraped, weathered, and distressed. To add to the realism, the vinyl can be cut into strips and mounted on boards to mimic planks, called luxury vinyl plank or LVP. It can also be cut into tile-sized squares called luxury vinyl tile or LVT.

You can have beautiful, rich, warm, or light, white-washed and gray wood floors; marble, granite, slate stone looks or hexagon, chevron, or herringbone tile patterns. That's only a tiny sample of what you'll find in our showroom with brands such as Karastan-LuxeCraft and more.

While it looks like the real thing, you won't pay nearly the same price as you would for genuine materials. However, we're starting to see it in some high-end homes where nothing but natural materials would be considered once.

Other luxury vinyl flooring benefits:

1. Durability for the busiest of homes: Five times thicker than the original product, this has a top transparent melamine wear sheet that protects the floor from scratches and scuffs. On top of that is a clear urethane finish that adds extra shine and strength. This is also completely waterproof, whether it’s submerged or spilled on.
2. Low maintenance: Luxury vinyl requires regular sweeping and periodic mopping with a manufacturer-approved cleaner. Avoid wax, shine promoting cleaners as they can damage the finish and dull the floor. If you feel you need more shine, seek the advice of a flooring expert.
3. Uncomplicated installation: This is especially true when it's a floating floor. Here, the pieces click together, mat, and hover over a clean, dry, and level subfloor without nails or glue.
